Hair Maintenance

Should I seal my wefts?

Weft sealing is not necessary on Kim Belaire hair. Our wefts are made very effectively to ensure minimal shedding but if you like you can still proceed to seal your wefts.

What products do I use?

We recommend using a high quality sulfate-free shampoo. Also, moisturizing conditioner. Try not to use 2-n-1 shampoos/conditioners. Shampoos are for cleansing and removing residue. Conditioners are for depositing moisture back into the hair. Use them separately. Kim Belaire Cambodian hair performs best when clean and free of residue. We also caution that a leave-in conditioner used for a few days will create build-up leaving the hair heavy and sticky. So, be sure to wash product from the hair frequently.

Some customers use the same natural and botanical products that they use on their own hair. It is suggested that you don’t use this, Cambodian hair reacts differently with certain products. Stay away from products with heavy conditioning moisture such as Shea Moisture, Carols Daughters, Organix, Crème of Nature, etc. (this may be okay for curly textures). Our hair performs very well with shampoos such as Paul Mitchell, Redken, Kenra, etc. Higher quality products will prolong the lifespan of your investment.

How often do I shampoo?

At least once a week is great to maintain its flow. It is recommended that you wash your hair whenever you feel it gaining buildup. Buildup can be caused by the oils on your face, sweat, products, etc.

How do I dry the hair?

To achieve the best results on wavy and curly hair, let the hair air dry. If you are in a rush, use a blow dryer with a diffuser on the end (for textured hair). If you try to blow dry wavy hair without a diffuser, it will have a straightening effect on the textured hair and/or disturb the curl pattern.

Can I swim with my hair?

Yes. Although it is not recommended because of the hassle and the chlorine/salt can make the hair dry and brittle, just as it does our own hair. Before you swim do the following precautions:

1. Comb or brush through hair

2. Apply a leave-in conditioner to hair to act as a protective layer

3. Braid hair to help to prevent tangling

After swimming you must shampoo and condition thoroughly.

How do I wash my hair?

You should wash your hair in the shower with soft downward strokes. Do not rustle the hair in a ball or bunch the hair all together while washing. This is will result in tangles. Try to follow the direction that your hair is sewn in.

To further define the curl pattern of wavy or curly hair, you can use quality curly hair products as well as a blow dryer diffuser.

Can I color the hair?

Kim Belaire Hair extensions are offered in their natural color state. To make Kim Belaire Hair extensions fit your desired look, our hair may be bleached or dyed. As each hair donor varies, most Cambodian hair has a tough layer to break through with the bleach so the bleach or color may have to sit longer than other origins of hair. It is recommend coloring extensions prior to installation and doing strand tests per bundle/set to. Just like natural hair, bleaching or using color with harsh chemicals may weaken the hair shaft and potentially alter the texture. Kim Belaire Hair extensions that have been colored require extra love and attention throughout the life of your look. Please be sure to deep condition extensions and use nourishing hair products whenever possible. We recommend that coloring be done by a professional/licensed colorist.Lifting the hair with high volumes of developer to extremely light colors may alter the integrity of the texture and curl pattern. Kim Belaire Hair is not responsible for any damage of hair quality or texture as a result of color processing.
